The history of the Real Divers Instructors and their scuba diving internships spans back to 1999. Peter Chandler was responsible for the creation of the very first Internship in Pattaya and became the very first certified Scuba Diver Instructor using his own internship training program. A year later Peter's brother, Neil Chandler joined the small but popular internship program run by Peter Chandler and continued on to PADI IDC Staff Instructor. The Internship program grew under the supervision of Peter Chandler until he opened his own dive shop with his brother in 2005. New ideas and new challenges to better the internship program now became available and a more honest and clear program was devised to suit the new and novice scuba diving intern.
There are 3 main areas to the cost of your Internship program:
Course Costs
Equipment Costs
Accommodation/Living Costs

- We don't demand (non-refundable) deposits. You pay for each step of the Internship as you go through. That's why we call the Internship 'Pay As You Go'.
- We build all our courses around flexibility knowing that each diver is an individual.
- We give you the best quality and variation of dive training with your career and diving needs in mind - with over 10 years diving experience knowledge.
- Your new equipment is your choice and after using various diving equipment, on actual dives, we will help you choose the right equipment for you.
- From the free pick up at the airport we never stop being your guide. We help with visa's, accommodation, orientation to pattaya, transportation and with the safe knowledge that our staff are available to you 24 hours a day.

Before the start of your Scuba Diving Internship we give you time to settle in and get comfortable with your surroundings. After a couple of days relaxing we'll show you around and help book you into accommodation that suits your taste. After these couple of days you will have had a brief tour of Pattaya and Jomtien, got to know a few other divers and you should now be in the relaxed mood that Pattaya is famous for. You are now ready to start your dive training.
Passing the PADI Open Water, PADI Advanced Open Water and the PADI Rescue Course will give you a great insight into what scuba diving will mean to you. After these course's you will have the knowledge and dive experience to know if becoming a PADI Professional is for you.
Why Risk losing 100% of the cost of the internships before you even get into the water? For example, you might not like scuba diving, or pattaya, the instructors, the dive shop or even Thailand! Most Internship programs do not refund your money when things go wrong that's why Real Divers created the Internship around a 'Pay As You Go' training program.

Why accept equipment before you have had any chance to use it? We at Real Divers let you go through the PADI Open Water course before advising on buying any equipment. You will have a chance to use various types and brands of equipment to help you decide on what is best for you. Also, we will give you our equipment seminar to learn more about scuba diving equipment and to ask any questions you will have in purchasing your individual set of dive equipment and all the discounts associated with that purchase.

Now you continue on to PADI Advanced Open Water (2 days), any chosen PADI Specialties (1-3 days each), EFR (1 day) and finally PADI Rescue Diver (3-4 days). All these courses are taught with our own instructors. If you choose to be taught on a one-to-one basis or by only one Instructor throughout your internship, we will accommodate you at no extra charge.
About PADI Specialties: It is not a requirement to have any PADI Specialties in becoming a certified PADI Open Water Instructor. However, if you want to become a PADI Specialty Instructor in Enriched Air (Nitrox) or Rebreather then you will need both these specialties before you can teach them. These are the only 2 PADI Specialties that an Instructor is required to take prior to teaching them.
So, without any specialties your total diving days will be around 6-7 days and you will have increased your dive total by a further 13 dives. Being flexible is your choice so you can push on and complete this in the minimum days possible or relax and take it easy between each course - it's up to you.
You've now become a top certified 'Recreational Diver'. Next, you turn professional.

This course is designed to give you the maximum PADI Divemaster experience by involving you directly with real customers and situations. This course enables you to assist the PADI Instructor with actual customers and students in every course possible under the PADI Course Structure. Every day is different. Your personal learning curve and quality as a trainee professional diver grows with every dive that you do - and we give you 50 dives included in the price to achieve this.
...and that's just in the water! Here's a day in the life of a PADI Divemaster... ...also available in a 'Divemaster's Photo Blog'
"Before the dive day begins you are there, in your dive shop, organising the days diving: Tides, weather, equipment, food, transport, logistics etc etc. Your level of service to the customers are outstanding when they arrive. The customer (and PADI instructor) are happy. Once on the boat you give the customers a brief introduction to the boat layout and simple rules for safety then you tell the captain where you want him to go for the day - he's your boat captain. During the journey your available to answer any question on the boat or the upcoming dives - you'll know all the answers. Meantime you have to organise all dive teams and match customers diving requirements to available resources in staff. Once you get to the 1st dive sight you give a happy and detailed dive brief including dive sight layout, all close proximity dive depths, marine life, maximum time of dive, emergency procedures and many other important details. If your not diving you've organised a competent diver to log the dive teams in/out of the water. After your dive you take back Boat Divemaster responsibilities - Is lunch going to be served on time? Any customer special food requirements? Is the time taken to refill tanks enough before you reach your second dive site? Any dive team changes for the second dive? The second dive brief and following dive is a success and you enjoy the company of your customers on the way back in towards home. You make sure your customers get back safely to their hotel and you head back to your dive shop, wash down and pack away all the dive equipment while enjoying the company of your instructor and team mates by sharing the stories of the unexpected wonders that happened just that day while scuba diving. Finally, eventually, the instructor and your team mates buy you a beer for creating a perfect, stress free diving day".
You can't achieve this level of professionalism over a couple of weeks so Real Divers have extended the course to be flexible to suit each individual diver. With 50 dives to do and numerous dive boats of various sizes to teach from, your training career becomes varied and of a high standard.

To improve your confidence in all these areas Real Divers have introduced 2 extra courses: DM Experience & AI Experience
DM Experience:
You are now a qualified PADI Divemaster but up to this point you have not been given the chance to be a Divemaster. The DM Experience Course gives you 20 dives and puts all your training into practice. The Instructor can use you more effectively then when you were a Divemaster Trainee (DMT). Your qualified to teach the numerous subjects above and put them into practice. The confidence and experience you get from this course goes a long way when it comes to your final Instructor exams.
Assistant Instructor (AI):
The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). You'll not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional but you'll also start learning the PADI System of diver education.
Once qualified the PADI Assistant Instructor course training qualifies you in the following:
* Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
* Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
* Teach the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course
* Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses
* Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences
* Teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course
AI Experience:
You are now a qualified PADI Assistant Instructor and once again, to this point you have not been given the chance to be an Assistant Instructor. The Assistant Instructor Experience Course gives you another 20 dives and like the DM Experience Course above, puts all your training into practice. You take more responsibility from the Instructors workload because your qualified to teach more subjects and likewise, the confidence and experience you get from this course goes even further when it comes to that final Instructor exams.
Open Water Scuba Instructor Exam (OWSI) & PADI Instructor Exam (IE):
The OWSI & IE are the last 2 steps in what has been a very rewarding course. The OSWI is a 5 day seminar which consists of lectures, exams and confined water skill tests. The IE is on your last 2 days and you be completing more tests and skills. With all the real time experience you have gained with Real Divers these Instructor Exams (OWSI & IE) should just be a formality for you. Before you attend this course we sit down with you and take you through some previous IE examples, give you mock exams and go through all the confined water tasks in great detail.
