PADI Drift Diver Specialty
PADI Drift diver specialty course; one thing for sure most ocean diving will have a current sometime in the day running too fast to enjoy a back to the boat dive. When the current is to fast the easiest method of planning your dive is by planning a drift dive where you go with the current. These dives are fun one because you don’t really need to fin just float and glide with the current also if you use the correct equipment like a reel and an SMB the navigation is easy, where ever you pop your head up the boat should be there because it followed your surface marker buoy.
On this course you will learn different entries/exits, different types of equipment (reels/SMB’s) a few different procedures like the lost buddy procedure.
Description & Advantages of drift diving
Drift diving allows you to cover a much larger area of reef in a single dive. This will present you with more marine life than you may have seen otherwise. Not only that, but in areas of strong current generally you tend do get much more abundant marine life and chance for larger pelagic animals. This is why when drift diving from a boat it is important to have a Divemaster on the boat so they can keep track of the buddy teams SMB’s.

The Drift diver specialty course has PADI elearning to self study before the course, there are only 2 knowledge reviews to complete online.
The Dives
- Entry and exits
- Preparing your dive equipment and SMB and reel.
- Deploying the SMB from a stationary position and from mid-water on the dive.
- Swimming while towing a SMB and managing the reel and line.
- Making a safety stop using the SMB line.
Prices and Schedule
Prerequisite PADI open water diver to participate in this course
PADI Drift diver Specialty course with PADI elearning and certification 9,500B (2 Days – 2 dives per day)
The course will be run from our large 12 metre speedboats to the Pattaya islands
- Start time 9am at dive center,
- Return time 2.30pm-ish.
